Each May when we do the Wolf Ridge hike in the Marin Headlands, we make a brief stop at Battery Townsley, one of the gun emplacements dating from the year before the U.S. entered WW II that still exists along the coast.
But when we're there on Tuesday, nothing is going on.
So Marin magazine suggests that you visit on the first Sunday of the month when NPS opens the battery to the public from noon to 4 pm.
