NEW! Read the Meandering Blog on Your Smartphone!

Now whether you’re in Tacoma, Timbuktu, or any place in between, you can easily read the Meandering in Marin blog on your Web-enabled cell phone (especially the iPhone), iPod Touch, or the new Apple iPad.

Changes to the “Blogger” blog
If you haven’t visited our “regular” blog lately, you’ve missed out an several changes:

Clicking on the navigation bar under the group photo (taken in May of 2008 on Hill 88 in the Marin Headlands) will let you quickly access important information which used to be in the right-hand sidebar:
  • About describes the Meandering in Marin program and includes the “Bios” for Wendy and our “staff” of photographers and the blog editor.
  • Upcoming Hikes lists all future hikes in the current series.  Click on the link to the next hike to read the hike preview.  Click on the link for the “Hike Details” to view and print detailed information for all hikes in the current series.
  • Photo Albums has a link to photos from the most recent hike as well as photos taken in the past.
  • Meandering Store has a link to our on-line CafePress.com store where you can order our distinctive merchandise including hats, T-shirts and sweatshirts, note cards, and more.
  • Links provides links to Websites such as the state and federal parks in Marin and other hiking reference materials.
  • Silvia Lange Remembered is devoted to the memory of one of long-time Meanderers and has links to photo albums, video clips, and other information about the life of the most extraordinary member of our hiking group.
Clicking on the bar under “Share This Blog” on the top right-hand side of the blog lets you share the blog via e-mail or on popular social networking Web sites.  (A minor glitch in the new blog template prevents us from share individual blog posts; hopefully that will fixed soon).

Farther down the right-hand column you’ll find a box that says “Search This Blog & The Web.” Type in your search words (e.g., Mount Burdell) here and hit the “Search” button.  (Until search engines “discover” information on the blog your search will only be conducted on other Websites).

New WordPress “Mobile” blog

Dick Jordan has set up a new version of the blog on WordPress.com that (unlike the Blogger version) is “optimized” for viewing on cell phones, the iPod Touch, and the iPad.  You can access the new WordPress “mobile” version in either of these ways:
  1. If you are reading this post (or the e-mail copy of it) on your phone, iPod Touch, or iPad, just click here for the mobile version; or
  2. Type in the full Website address in your device’s Web browser; http://meanderinginmarinontuesdays.wordpress.com/ or
  3. Type in this shortened version of the Website address: http://bit.ly/an2zbA; or
  4. Go to the Blogger version (http://meanderingtuesdays.blogspot.com/) and then click on the “Click here for mobile version” link in the right-hand column.
Once you have the WordPress blog open either bookmark it or (if you have an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad) add it to your Home Page.
Blogs “go public”

Dick has now made both blogs “public.”  Hopefully they will soon be “discovered” by search engines and you (and everyone else) will be able to find them by doing a Google search.

Different look and feel in the WordPress blog

The WordPress blog looks different (either on a regular computer or a mobile device) than the Blogger version and has a different color scheme.

Like the new Blogger blog, the WordPress blog has clickable “Tabs” (also known as “Pages”) on the navigation bar under the group photo at the top of the blog.  If you are viewing the WordPress blog on a mobile device click on the small arrow in the upper right-hand corner to access the “Home” screen, “Pages”, and Archives (of past blog posts).

There is no photo “slideshow” window on the WordPress blog, but you will find links to each of the on-line Picasa Web albums under on the “Photo Album” page tab.  You can look each each photo individually or run a slideshow from the Picasa album.

Have fun with the new blogs and let Dick know if you run into any problems or have any questions!
