Just before Thanksgiving, Dick Jordan (who spent three years working as a "scullery maid" at Ramekins Sonoma County Culinary School in the Town of Sonoma) found three "demonstration" classes (you watch, the chef cooks, you eat) on the school's January-April 2009 calendar that he thought that the Tuesday Meanderers might be interested in attending. (We could do a private cooking class for the group, but the per person costs are quite a bit higher). Susan Pearson was interested in this class:
Friday, March 27, 2009 (11:00 am - 2:00 pm; $50)
The Splendor of Spring
Spring’s arrival brings bright flavors and ingredients that are simple to prepare. Therese Nugent, Sonoma cooking teacher and food columnist for the Sonoma Index Tribune, will show you how to make a hearty meal that celebrates the new ingredients of the season and is sure to please family and friends using the following recipes:
• Roasted Asparagus Soup with Spring Herb Gremolata
• Pasta in a Lemon Cream Sauce (Tagliolini al Limone)
• Poached Salmon bathed in Basil Butter over Spring Succotash
• Minted Sugar Snap Peas
• Old Fashioned Rhubarb Cake with Strawberry Sauce
If you'd like to attend this class with Susan and Dick, do the following: 1) Sign up the class by contacting Ramekins directly (the cancellation policy is more liberal for individual students than for groups); 2) let Dick know that you plan on coming (if we have a group, he'll see if he can come up with an "after school" activity, such as a visit to a local winery). As of Saturday, January 30th, 17 spaces remained in this class (down from 21 a week ago).
Registering for the class on-line at the Ramekins Web site (http://www.ramekins.com) is probably easier than doing so by phone (707-930-0450). Click on "Cooking Classes", then "Calendar" (left hand-side of the page), then select "March 2009" from the drop-down box at the top of the calendar (the list still contains March 2008 - so don't chose that option). Scroll down to March 27th, click on the 11:00 am class ("The Splendor of Spring") to get to the class description. Then click on "Add to shopping cart" and complete the registration process.
