Six More Weeks of What Weather???

According to Punxsutawney Phil (he's the furry-faced one without the top hat in the photo at the left), we will have six more weeks of winter in 2009. (Click here for details on this prediction). For Pennsylvanians, that probably means six more weeks of snow, sleet, freezing rain, black ice, and logs burning in fireplaces and woodstoves. But what does it mean for us in the San Francisco Bay Area --- six more weeks of sunshine and Spring weather, or six weeks of rain (which we desperately need)?

The National Weather Service forecast for the next week (beginning today, Friday, February 6th) is:

This Afternoon: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 51. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 43. Calm wind becoming north northeast between 5 and 8 mph.

Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 56. Northwest wind between 3 and 5 mph.
